Cataract Surgery
What is Cataract?
The lens is a transparent structure which transmits light, which in turn is focused on the retina, similar to a camera. The picture so formed on the retina is then sent to the brain via a nerve to complete the process of seeing. When this lens starts becoming opaque or white, the problem is labelled as cataract. The condition happens when certain proteins in the lens form into abnormal clumps. These clumps gradually enlarge and interfere with vision by distorting or blocking the passage of light through the lens.

Symptoms Of Cataract Surgery
-
Poor Night Vision:
Cataract develops gradually over time affecting eye Vision resulting in poor night vision. Over the time cataract get larger resulting in blurry vision or blindness which can affect people’s ability to perform daily tasks.
-
Blurry Vision:
Blurry Vision is caused in case of severe clouding of the eye lens. Blurry and dull vision is the foremost symptom of Cataract. If the cataract is still not treated, it could lead to blindness or permanent Vision loss.
-
Multiple Eye Vision:
Multiple Eye Vision could occur due to improper scattering of light by Cloudy eye lens resulting in multiple incomplete images. The patient will see multiple blurry images which can lead to severe Vision defect.
Cataract Treatment
To a certain level, cataract affected vision can be corrected with prescription eye-glasses including contacts or bifocals. However, beyond a certain point prescription glasses may be ineffective and surgical options have to be considered. In a cataract surgery, the patients’ cloudy lens is removed and replaced with a transparent Intra Ocular Lens (IOL) to restore good quality vision.
At the front of the eye, there is a small space called the anterior chamber. Clear fluid flows in and out of the chamber to bathe and nourish nearby tissues. In Glaucoma there is an impairment in the dynamics of this fluid called aqueous humour due to varied causes, some of which are unknown leading to increase in intraocular pressure. Unless this pressure is controlled, it may cause damage to the optic nerve and loss of vision.
